Bishop Clara joined the bishops of the National Church March 31-April 4th for their Spring gathering. The newer bishops met at Church House in Toronto on the Monday to meet some of the staff at the General Synod office and to hear about the work that they do in service to the church.

All the bishops then gathered in Niagara Falls at Mount Carmel Retreat Centre to discern and raise up nominations amongst the bishops who would allow their names to stand for the upcoming Primate election to be held in June at General Synod. Four candidates were nominated by the House of Bishops, and the election of the Primate will be held at General Synod with only the house of laity and house of clergy allowed to vote and elect the Primate.

The balance of the bishops’ time was spent discussing the various motions and topics that will be coming before General Synod. In particular, they focussed on the report of the Primates Commission that was tasked with reviewing the role of General Synod, the Primate and governance structures of the Anglican Church. All of these things will be brought forward at General Synod June 23-June 29th 2025.
