Welcome to the Sun Peak’s Chapel Ministry at the Sun Peaks International Ski Resort near Kamloops BC. It is a unique offering for the ski community now in its sixteenth year. A team of lay people hold a prayer service for the skiing public each Sunday through the winter ski season (December to April).
It is held in a neat little Chapel about half way up the hill behind the Sunburst Restaurant. We use a prayer service from the Iona Abbey Worship Book or a new service that was written by the Rev. Louise Peters, past Dean of St. Paul's Cathedral in Kamloops. The new service reflects more on the fact that we are on the mountain in God’s Creation and the service wording blends in with our surroundings well. The service is about 20 minutes long with readings, a homily and a time for prayer.
Sun Peak’s has the Chapel Service listed in their weekly activity guide that is distributed to the hotels on the hill. We also have two sandwich board type signs that we put out each Sunday to let people know the time and location of the service. Attendance to the service can vary from 0 to 40 at Christmas and Easter. It is always nice to hear the comments of the people attending. They come from all over the world to experience Sun Peaks and enjoy their time at the “Chapel on the Hill.”
We are a small group of dedicated people that enjoy fulfilling this role. Sun Peaks is very encouraging in our ministry.
