St. Alban’s Journey to Sustainable Ministry. 

Like all of society St. Alban's is working towards a greener more sustainable world. 

In 2016 we installed new LED lighting in the church hall.  This reduced our hydro consumption by 7% on an annual basis. 

We also installed new high efficiency furnaces.  The savings are a little harder to confirm due to changes in weather patterns and hall usage, however, we know the reduction in gas billings were more than 10%.   

In 2018 we experienced two gale force wind and rain storms in ten days.  The wind lifted a portion of our tar and gravel hall roof causing water to leak into the church hall.  The Parish Council, knowing the hall roof was nearing the end of its useful life had designed a trussed roof that could be installed when needed.  It was designed so we could install solar panels to reduce our hydro use further.  The trusses were ordered and volunteers from the church installed the trusses, a contractor installed the metal roofing, and our volunteers installed R40 insulation inside the trussed roof.  This reduced our hydro and gas consumption by a further 10%.

We have just completed the installation of the solar array.  This was made possible by a very generous grant from the Anglican Foundation of Canada.
