St. Michael's parishioners celebrating their new railings for the parish hall!
At St. Michael's- Merritt, feeding people every week is a big part of what we do as a parish. Earlier this year, we decided that a accessible ramp for people with walkers, wheelchairs, strollers, etc. was a real necessity. With thanks to help both within the parish and the local community, and with financial assistance from the Territory in terms of a Capital Improvement grant, we were able to design a ramp and create a walkway. The one last touch to its completion, after pouring the cement, was a set of railings. Thanks to the fine leadership of Warden Al Mackay-Smith throughout this project, the railings were completed by Alpha Welding of Merritt and and then painted by Al at his workshop on his farm just outside of town, which he and his wife Karen own. They were installed recently, just in time for the slippery winter weather. This has been a major project for our small parish, and we are excited that it is complete!
The completion of this project, including the railings, will ensure that the guests will be able to access the festivities safely, as well as regular Tuesday Soup Bowl patrons and Sunday morning worshipers.
