Then, Marie Hay with the support of Philomena Hughes' technical skills showed a 10-minute video clip, of a CBC Documentary called ‘Black Migrations’ .
Following this, a panel of three eminent black community elders shared their personal stories of racism encountered in Canada, and wisdom about how we might reduce racism in ourselves and our community; to make it a more loving, inclusive and kind place for all.
Dr. Abu Hamour MD, from Sudan, spoke about his experiences and the need for us to be active in stopping systemic racism.
Dr. Anthony Jjumba PhD, from Uganda, shared his stories and advised that we need to spiritualize our community, to reduce racism.
Mr. Cliff Raphael from Trinidad and Tobago, shared his stories and then demonstrated, through a unique participatory physical experiment, the importance of us needing to build inclusion in and through building a strong unified community.
Energized by these powerful and heartfelt stories and advice, the attendees and panelists then joined together for a lovely social, filled with meaningful conversations, delicious treats and non-alcoholic drinks.
We thank God for such a memorable afternoon replete with love and laughter and an enhanced understanding that we are all members of the same race, the human race, and we are all God’s children, make in God’s image and likeness.
